MESSAGES OF SOLIDARITY FROM CARITAS CHAPTERS
|
A message of support to the victims and to all at Caritas who have joined
in the responsive effort to the earthquake in Peru.
I would like to send a message of solidarity to my Peruvian brothers
and sisters and appeal to the generosity of all the members of the Caritas
Confederation so that Caritas Peru may receive the resources necessary
to help those who are suffering most in their country. At this time
of recovery and repair, following the earthquake they have suffered,
my prayers go out to the Peruvian people
Cardenal Oscar Rodríguez
President of Caritas International
Mons. Fernando Bargallo, president of Caritas--Latin American and Caribbean
Region, said that ‘the blow suffered by the Peruvian people these
past few days has been terrible. For this reason, we would like to express
our solidarity and our deepest sympathy for those who have suffered
the consequences of this tragedy, especially those who have lost their
loved ones.’
We beseech Mary of Guadalupe, patron of our continent, to bestow her motherly love on the families affected by the earthquake.
Affectionately,
Patrica Tancredi
Regional Communications Coordinator
To our dear Peruvian brothers:
A warm greeting from the Diocesan Office of Social Pastoral Care of Limon, Costa Rica. We join you in prayer that our Lord Jesus Christ and his Holy Mother Mary shower the victims of yesterday’s earthquake with grace and comfort.
Inny Coto Madriz and the Social Pastoral Care team
Caritas Costa Rica
We received the news of this terrible event with much sadness. We join
in the messages of solidarity with our comrades and pray to Our Lord
that you rise above this disaster.
Caritas of Ecuador joins hands with our Peruvian brothers who have suffered
this terrible catastrophe and asks God to tighten the bonds of solidarity
in order to help our brothers in need.

Episcopal Commission of Pastoral Social

To our Peruvian brothers:
I am writing these lines with a broken heart and an enormous sense of impotence at being unable to lend a hand to the Peruvian people who have suffered tremendously due to the earthquake. Peruvians have always received me with joy and affection.
I have been to both Ica and Nazca, and also have attended Mass in Pisco’s cathedral with my people, many of whom may no longer be alive.
Statistics know how to tell stories, and now they tell us a tragic story of hundreds of deaths in one of our countries.
Together in faith,
Ivonne Campos
Administrator Caritas Uruguay

Our fellow Americans:
We join you in your prayers, although the news is sketchy at the moment, hoping that the consequences of the disaster are less serious than expected. We are continuing to follow the news with worry and attention.
A.S. Gerardo Monteverde
Dept. of Social Action, Caritas Uruguay
Our prayers go out to the victims of the earthquake so that Our Lord
allows them to enjoy the light of his face. For the families that they
receive comfort. For the victims, so that they overcome the disaster
and have enough resources and will for reconstruction. For the Peruvian
Church so that it consoles and accompanies those who suffer and illuminates
them with the Spirit.
With warm regards for all our Peruvian brothers and sisters,
Maritza Sanchez
Director
Caritas Cuba
